The Second Battle of Panipat was fought on 5th November 1556, between the armies of Samrat Hem Chandra Vikramaditya (Hemu), the ruler of Delhi, and the forces of Mughal emperor Akbar.

On 24th January 1556, following the death of Humayun, he was succeeded by his thirteen year old son, Akbar.
Hemu was the military general of Afghan Sultan Muhammad Adil ShahHemu occupied Agra and Delhi without much opposition and made himself the ruler.

This was the main reason for the Second Battle of Panipat. Bairam Khan, the chief minister and the guardian of Akbar declared war on Hemu's forces; thus resulting in Second Battle of Panipat..
