When antibiotics are not effective against diseases caused by viruses why do we take medicines when we suffer from chicken pox, measles etc. ?

antibiotics are the chemical substances produced mainly by microorganisms (bacteria and fungi).At low concentrations they have the ability to inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. They commonly block the biochemical pathways important for bacteria e.g.penicillin
