Ammonia Solution reacts with mercury(I) chloride and forms white precipitate of Mercury(II) amidochloride and mercury metal . Both the products are insoluble precipitates. Mercury(II)amido chloride is a white precipitate but the finely divided mercury makes its shiny black.
