Semi colons are used when you want to joint to sentences that are closely related. For example, we can contribute towards this cause in any way we can; the more the number of people, the more better.

Here's an example: I have a big test tommorow;I can't go out tonight......here the two clauses in the sentence i separated by a semicolon (;) and could be sentences on their own if you put a period between them:I have a big test tommorow
