Normally calcium does sink in water,that is only if it doesn't react with water at all because its density is more than that of water (not sure excatly how much but...) but that isn't the case here at all because we know when calcium reacts with water it gives out hydrogen gas
Ca + 2H2O gives rise to Ca(OH)2 + H2
so what happens in the reaction is that the piece of calcium gets suspended by bubbles of hydrogen until there is nothing left over there at all
