✨IT IS A CHEMICAL CHANGE

✨Chemical changes occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance, called chemical synthesis or, alternatively, chemical decomposition into two or more different substances. These processes are called chemical reactions and, in general, are not reversible except by further chemical reactions.

Charcoal is a pure form of carbon. When it is burned, it gains oxygen.

\sf C + O_2 \longrightarrow CO_2.

Here, since carbon (Charcoal) is gaining oxyegn, it is Oxidation reaction.

Oxidation reaction :-

Gain of oxygen, or loss of hydrogen by an element in reaction is oxidation. Reduction is just the opposite of oxidation.

Reduction and oxidation generally takes place together. Hence, they are also known as Redox reaction.
