When common salt is added to ice, it increases the freezing point of ice.

It is true fact that the salt increases the melting point of ice as well as it delays the freezing of water than the usual one. Chemically, it is due to the interaction between the water molecules and as well as the salt molecules which pushes the melting of point of ice. In very cold regions where there is a lot of snow fall during the winter season, the highway department spreads salt on the ice to melt.
