When copper reacts with nitric acid then it forms copper nitrate and hydrogen gas liberates.

The reaction are as follows::

Cu + 2HNO3 ===> Cu(NO3)2 + H2


MEANS ::

Copper + Nitric acid ==> Copper nitrate + Hydrogen.

The answer given by that person is wrong bcoz H2 ain't evolved when a metal reacts with HNo3
