Non- Alignment Movement

Explanation:

  • The Non-Alignment Movement arose as a result of the two Blocs formed during the cold war-Soviet Bloc and the US-led Capitalist Bloc. The members of the Non-Alignment Movement did not formally align with any of the two major powers. This ensured there was no military relationship with either of the two blocs. The movement helped unite all the developing countries into getting better treatment with the developed countries with respect to trade, development aid, etc.

  • Drawing on the standards concurred at the Bandung Conference in 1955, the NAM was set up in 1961 in Belgrade, Yugoslavia under the initiative of the Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the Yugoslav President Josip Broz Tito. This prompted the main Conference of Heads of State or Governments of Non-Aligned Countries.
