Most of the geologist, will perform "Acid test " to test the presence of carbonates minerals and carbonate rocks .
Procedure: By placing 5 to 10%  dilute HCl acid on rock
Observation:
Bubbles of carbon dioxide gas is produced.
Conclusion: The bubbles signal the presence of carbonate minerals such as calcite, dolomite .
Chemical reaction involved:
CaCO3 + 2HCl ----> CO2 +H2O +CaCl2
