⌬ Let sides of square be x m.

When each side of a square is increased by 1 m the perimeter becomes 40 m.

  • Sides of square after increasing 1 m = (x + 1) m

According to the given Question:

We know that,

Perimeter of square = 4 × side

⇏ 4 × (x + 1) = 40

⇏ 4x + 4 = 40

⇏ 4x = 40 - 4

⇏ 4x = 36

⇏ x = 36/4

⇏ x = 9

Hence, the original length of sides of a square is 9 m.

Verification:

  • Side of square after increasing 1 m

⇏ 9 + 1 = 10 m

  • Perimeter of square after increasing 1 m in side.

Perimeter = 4 × side

⇏ 4 × 10 = 40 m

Hence, Proved!!
