when electrons are gained by an element then it is said to be oxidization or reduction?

thanks :)

YASH3100: Hola dear well don't worry I'll clear you confusion, the gaining of electron by any element is termed as reduction this is because let's say you have Na+ so when Na+ accepts an electron it would become Na atom (neutral) so in this case the oxidation no of Na+ was +1 and after accepting an electron it became 0 ie neutral so whenever there is a decrease in oxidation nos then it is called as reduction
YASH3100: Such elements undergo REDUCTION and are known as OXIDIZING AGENT.
locomaniac: Thank you so much!
YASH3100: Hope you got it dear :) and most welcome :)
SKairon: Nicely explained brother
YASH3100: Thank you brother

Reduction is the process of gain of electrons

locomaniac: which ans is correct tho?
SKairon: I would obviously say that mine is correct...:D
SKairon: but u can check it out on the net
locomaniac: duh..
locomaniac: i got confused
SKairon: well ..I am pretty sure it is reduction
SKairon: I am sure u know that addition of hydrogen atom is also called reduction...since it is electropositive(nearly) the atom to which it is added would gain electrons...so reduction is the gain of electrons
SKairon: this is my own logic tho
locomaniac: well i hope u are correct. oh god look after me and this guy.
SKairon: U didnt check it out??
