Ethane burnt in oxygen(not balanced)

C2H5 +O2------>CO2 +H2O

in  this rex. carbon of ethane exists in -3 oxidation state, which changes into +4 after got burnt.

When ethane burn in excess of O2 then it produce heat and Co2. therefore the oxidation number of carbon in ethane is. and the oxidation number of carbon in CO2 is. hence when ethane burn in excess of oxygen then it's oxidation number change from -3 to 2.
