when a zinc granules are added to carboxylic acids h2 gas is liberated because zinc is more reactive than hydrogen so it displaces hydrogen from the carboxylic acid to form zinc salt of carboxylic acid

Zn + carboxylic acid = Zn saltr of carboxylic acid + H2

if teh carboxylic acid is acestic acid then

Zn + CH3COOH = (CH3COO)2Zn + H2

is the reaction that takes place

When hydrocarbon is reacted with granulated zinc, zinc being more reactive displaces hydrogen and forms zinc salt of acid and hydrogen gas is liberated
