Answer:

When iron sulphate is heated in presence of oxygen, Anhydrous ferrous sulphate is formed.

First it was in crystal state and it had water of crystallization.

But after heating, the water gets dried up and the colour of the compound changes from light green to white .

Explanation:

  • On heating iron sulpahte , ferrous sulphate (FeSO4) is formed.
  • As a result of this reaction it colour changes.
  • It decomposes to form ferric oxide, sulphur dioxide and sulphur trioxide.
  • 2FeSO4 (s)---------------->Fe2O3 (s) + SO2 (g) +SO3 (g).
  • It have the common name, Green vitriol .
  • This process of heating ferrous sulphate crystals is known as Thermal Decomposition.
  • In this chemical reaction , a single substance breaks into two or more simple substances when it is heated.
  • This chemical reaction can also be used in preparation of oxygen.
  • It can be represented in the general equation: AB → A + B.
  • In this reaction , heat is required to break the bonds present in the substance.
