Macaulay learnt that traditional education system in India made Indians attached to their own tradition, culture and rituals. But since that meant useless for colonial rule, he thought of changing the educational system in India. British India was in need of people who can do clerical jobs.

The educational system of Lord Macaulay can also be known as Macaulyism. Macaulyism is a educational system that was designed to eliminate indigenous educational system that follows cultural teachings, in order to substitute an alien culture in the colonized state.
