When metal burn with oxygen, it produces metal oxide.

Consider the equivalent weight of metal is ‘Y’ g.

When burns with oxygen, the equivalent weight is increased by 24%. So the equivalent weight of metal oxide becomes 1.24Y g.

Equivalent weight of oxygen = 8 g

So, equivalent weight of metal = 8*Y/1.24Y = 6.45 g

Equivalent weight of metal = 6.45 g
