This is the oxidation-reduction chemical reaction.

  • When oxygen is passed over red ,hot copper then the product formed will be copper oxide . This type of chemical reaction is known as the oxidation-reduction reaction.

  • This also called combination reaction or synthesis reaction.

  • It is called redox reaction as in this the two elements are there ,out of which the more electronegative element gets reduced and less electronegative one gets oxidised.

  • Here in this reaction , 2Cu + O2 → 2CuO , Cu is oxidised and the oxygen gets reduced.
