When particle is thrown upward in influence of gravity why is v=0 at top point even when displacement is there?

At the topmost point due to the effect of gravity the velocity of particle decreases to ZERO.
Still, the particle had travelled a distance of Hmax. units in a single +ve direction.
Therefore, it's distance = Displacement.
hence inspite of velocity being Zero , partice has a net displacement.
But when it falls back to ground; the conditions changes and this time, inspite of being a velocity the particle has net displacement equals to Zero.
