As most of the fuels are hydrocarbons(made up hydrogen and oxygen) so , burning them in sufficient amount of oxygen will give carbon dioxide gas. and if there is insufficient oxygen then it will give carbon monoxide gas.

basically petrol is carbon based compound.when we burn any hydrocarbon it produce

  1. oxides of carbon like co2 and co
  2. H20 (water)
