When salt or sugar are poured into different kinds of vossels. Why do they take the shape of vessels

When salt or sugar are poured into different kinds of vessels they take the shape of the vessel but this is observed incase there is more than one crystal. If we observe just one crystal, it doesn't change its shape... Thais is why salt and sugar are considered to be solids.
