Duphaston is a medicine that contains the hormone dydrogesterone, which helps to increase the "level of progesterone" in women. Women who are trying to conceive, but has deficiency of the hormone progesterone during their luteal phase of the periodic cycle, they are prescribed dydrogesterone tablets like duphaston. However, taking excess of these pills during pregnancy, will increase the "level of progesterone", that will cause very dangerous and sometimes fatal damage to the foetus. Hence, when a woman has conceived or is pregnant or is suspected to be pregnant, she should stop taking duphaston.
