When sodium Hydroxide is treated with sulphur dioxide, it forms sodium Sulphide and water .

The chemical equation is -->

NaOH + SO2-------> Na2S + H2O

It is a neutralization reaction. Because NaOH is an alkali and SO2is an acidic oxide .
