When sulphuric acid is added to 1 gm of solid sodium chloride which has is released,what changes do u observe when u test the gas with dry and wet litmus paper, what is your inference from this experiement

Sulfuric acid reacts with 1 g of solid sodium chloride to yield sodium sulfate and hydrogen chloride gas as follows:

H2SO4 + NaCl -----> Na2SO4 + HCl

When Hydrogen chloride gas reacts with a dry litmus paper, there is no reaction as the gas cannot dissociate to form any chloride or hydrogen ions in dry conditions.

However, when a moist blue litmus paper is used to test the evolved hydrogen chloride gas, the gas dissolved to form hydronium ions as follows:

HCl + H2O ---->  H3O+  + Cl-

In the above reaction, water acts like a base and HCl forms the acid, which turns the color of the litmus paper.
