The parts present on either side of thecentromere are called the arms of thechromosomes. Based on the position of the centromere, chromosomes can be classified as metacentric, sub-metacentric, acrocentric and telocentric. *Metacentric: Thecentromere is exactly in the middle of the chromosome forming two equal arms.
