The ques. is from "Two Gentlemen Of Verona" and the boys didn't wanted any stranger to intrude into their privacy. The boys didn't wanted to disclose their plans in front of the narrator who was a stranger for them which is common. They were feeling evasive as they didn't knew the narrator and were strong enough to deal with the situations of their life as they were hard working and mature too.
