It is due to Newtons third law of motion which is' Every action force has an equal and opposite reaction force which acts simultaneously'

Explanation:

Initially the passengers (object) were in motion condition along with the train and thats why they were moving forward and backward because of forces acting on them.When the train suddenly stopped it moved slightly backwards which resulted in the passengers response to that force forward.
