When two resistors are connected in series, their effective resistance is 80 ohm when they are connected in parallel, their effective resistance is 20 ohm, what are the values of the two resistance ans=40 ohm, 40 ohms?

In series equivalent resistance is R1+R2=80 ohm's.

In parallel equivalent resistance is

(R1.R2)/(R1+R2)=20 ohm's.

So R1.R2=1600 ohm's.

By solving underlined eq by using formula of quarditic equation

(R1+R2)^2-(R1-R2)^2=4R1.R2

So we get finally R1=R2=40 ohm's.
