United AP(which existed from 1956 to 2014) has 3 regions
Telangana ,Rayalaseema and Costal Andhra
In1948 ,Telangana(Called Hyderabad state) got independence from Nizam rule and was merged with India.
In 1953 ,Andhra State was formed due to protests from Telugu speaking people of Madras state and it was the first state created on linguistic basis.
In 1956,both states were united and AP was formed ,at the time of formation of AP state there were some agreements( named as Gentlemen's agreement ) made like if CM is from Andhra ,Dy CM should be from Telangana and vice versa. Telangana population was 40% of AP state at the time of merging so 40% of govt. jobs should belong to Telangana and 60% to Andhra etc
In 1969,Telangana movement started because of the failure in implementing the agreements made earlier, many students were killed and finally PM of India came up with a 8 point formula and few committees were appointed regarding the agreements.
Justice Vasishta Bhargava Committee gave a report that 4500 employees were working against the Gentlemen's agreement and funds which needed to be spent on Telangana development were never spent .
The Government promised to correct what critics saw as a violation of the promises of the Gentleman's agreement in the areas of jobs, budget allocations, and educational facilities,P.V.Narasimha Rao became the first Chief minister of Andhra Pradesh from Telangana in 1971.
When the Supreme Court upheld the Mulki rules at the end of 1972, the Jai Andhra movement(As per Mulki rules ,anyone who had lived in Hyderabad for 15 years was considered a local, and eligible for government posts).Six point formula was made to solve this issue.
In 1985,employees from Telangana complained about the violations of six-point formula,GO 610 was issued by the government to correct the violations in recruitment.
Again in 2001, Telangana people complained about non-implementation of GO 610, Girglani commission was appointed to look into violations.
In 2004,Girglani Commission identified the violations of six-point formula .The Cabinet has accepted the Girglani Commission report and ordered implementation of its recommendations made by the commission without any change.
In 2001 ,KCR started a political party whose aim is separate Telanaga state. It made alliance with INC in 2004 and joined UPA,which promised separate state but never spoke about it later.
In 2009 KCR started hunger strike in protest against INC which failed to keep the promise made.Students and employees joined the protest. Many students committed suicide during the Telangana movement .
On 9 December 2009 the Government of India announced the process of formation of the Telangana state.
