Shri Guru Hargobind Singh laid the foundation stone of the Akal Takht building in 1605. The building faces the Darshini Deorhi, which leads to the Golden Temple. Originally the Akal Takht was just 3.5 metres higher from the ground. Today, it's a 5 storey building with gold leafed dome.
