The Constitution of India was signed and adopted on 26th November 1949, but it came into effect on 26th January 1950, which is celebrated as the Republic Day so as to honor the pledge taken at the Lahore Session of 1929 which adopted the resolution of Poorna Swaraj and fixed 26th January 1930 as the first Independence Day, which was to be celebrated by the people.

2) But it was imposed on 26 January, 1950 to give due importance to the date, 26 January.

3) To mark this day we celebrate it as the Republic Day every year.
