Tipu Sultan invaded Travancore, which was under the protection of the British.They were already looking for an excuse to crush Tipu"s power. Hence a war started between the two. Tipu"s alliance with the French did not help as French was busy in French Revolution.The british laid siege on Srirangapatanam.Tipu was forced to sign the treaty of Srirangapattnam. Although Lord Wellesley attacked and the war ended the Tipu"s death on 4th may 1799.
