When water is added in an acid,it either partially or completely ionises to produce hydrogen ions but when water is added to an alcohol,usually no reaction takes place(no ions formed).My question is that can water be used to distinguish between alcohols and acids.Give reasons to support your answer.

No it cannot as you can’t see and tell whether an acid is dissociated or not

We usually tell the difference between two compounds when one of them show color or any evolution of gas or ppt etc just by dissociation you can’t tell the difference
