Some of this energy goes into the molecules of both objects, increasing their velocities and making them warmer. If the ball is made out of a completely inelastic substance (say, a lump of clay, or a glob of water), all of the energy is transferred this way......✍️

▪️If the object applying the force is a human body, the situation is even more complicated. Muscles aren't simple force-appliers; they are a collection of muscle cells that are continually pulling and releasing. They burn energy even when standing completely still. If you're pushing against a wall, or holding up a book at arm's length, they are converting chemical energy into heat, depleting your reserves and building up molecular waste products that you perceive as "being tired".....✍️

If you can follow all of the forces down to the chemical level, however, you can apply the scientific definitions and everything still works...✍️
