During fever, large amount of chemicals called pyrogens travel through the blood stream and reach the hypothalamus of our brain.
The hypothalamus controls our body temperature.
When pyrogens bind to certain receptors in the hypothalamus, body temperature rises.
Thus fever causes high temperature.
