when we place some ice cubes in a glass of cool drinks they float in it? why?

The exact answer to your question is that the density of ice is lower than that of the cold drinks which is, not exactly but approx the density of water.
When ice is formed, the volume increases while the mass remains same.
Density is mass by volume so if volume increases then density decreases.
Thus it floats on cold drinks.
