Matchstick head is made up of mixture of antominy trisulphide , Potassium chlorate and white phosphorus with some glue and starch.
When it is struck against rough surface , white phosphorus gets ignited due to heat of friction.
This starts the combustion of Match stick.
But nowadays in match stick only antominy trisulphide and Potassium chlorate is used.
The rubbing surface has powdered glass and a little red phosphorus.
When match stick is rubbed, due to heat of friction, red phosphorus gets converted into white phosphorus and reacts with Potassium chlorate to produce enough heat to ignite antimony trisulphide and starts the combustion.
