Football is lightweight, so when we kick a football, it moves and gives less recoil to us due to the law of conservation momentum. Whereas a stone is heavy and hence, it has more inertia of rest. So when we kick a heavy stone it gives us more recoil to conserve momentum; therefore, we get hurt by kicking a stone.
