the gas evolved is hydrogen when metals react with acid they produce hydrogen gas

pranavmv16: Zn reacts with HCl and forms zinc chloride with the evolution of hydrogen gas.

the reaction of zinc with HCl
pranavmv16: zn +2hcl ==>zncl2 +h2
pranavmv16: If a bringing a burning splint near the mouth of the container, and it lots off with a pop sound then the gas evolved is identified as Hydrogen.
