John was travelling to Cincinnati when he saw the finest maiden of all (Jessie) and fell in
love after which he followed her all the way to her home town, keeping a sharp unpredictable distance from her eyes. He finds out about her house and then speaks to her. Jessie reveals the truth that she knew John was following her and she was glad he didn't talk to her. The next challenge for him was to enter the girl's house which was the Colonel's mansion (Jessie’s father). John pulled up his courage and confessed about his real motive to Colonel Allyn. He asked for the girl's hand and to his surprise the Colonel gave an unexpected answer by agreeing and told him stories which he heard patiently. After much persuasion, John finally marries Jessie.
