gene set is present. not as a single long thread of DNA but as separate independent pieces called chromosome. each cell has copies of chromosome ;one from male and the other from female.

we have 22 pairs of chromosomes,

but one pair called sex chromosome is unpaired .women have a perfect pair of sex chromosomes both X,men have mismatched pair - one is nomal sized X while the other one is short one called Y .

sex chromosomes are important for sex determination of the new born child.
