Genes are located in the chromosomes.

The Genes are functional units of DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid). The entire DNA is crumpled and packed inside chromosomes. The sequences of the DNA cannot be translated into proteins.

The DNA whichever is translated to protein is termed as genes. The remaining DNA is considered as junk DNA which does not have any role in the present.

Genes are responsible for the transfer of characteristics from one generation to another. They also form a source for genetic disease transfer.
