Iron :-
Following four varieties of iron ore are generally recognized. Out of these two are found in India.

1) Magnetite - This is the best quality of iron ore and contains 72 % pure iron. It is found in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

2) Haematite - It contains 60 % to 70 % pure iron and it is found in Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Orrisa, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

Karnataka is the largest producer of iron ore in India and accounts for nearly 25 % of the total production of iron ore. Orrisa is at second with 22 % production of iron ore. Other states where iron ore is found are Chhattisgarh, Goa, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan etc.

Aluminium :-
Bauxite is an important ore of aluminium. Orrisa is the largest producer of bauxite in India and it produces more than half of the total production of India. Gujarat is the second largest producer and produces over 15 % of the total production of Bauxite. Other states where Bauxite is produced are Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.

Zinc :-
More than 99 percent of of the total production of zinc of India is produced in Zawar region in Udaipur district of Rajasthan. Other states where zinc is produced are Jammu and Kashmir, Sikkim and Tamil Nadu.
