Where are Neolithic cultures found in South India? Mention its important features.

The Neolithic culture found in South India are in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and the North Western part of Tamilnadu.

In south India the Neolithic sites excavated are Maski, Brahmagiri, Hallur,Sanganakallu,Tekkalakota,Watkal,Piklihal and Kodekal in Karnataka, Paiyampalli in Tamil Nadu and Utnur ,Veerapuram ,Nagarjunakonda and Rampuram in Andhra Pradesh. These sites have been discovered in the river valleys of Godavari, Krishna, Pennaru, Tungabhadra and Kaveri.

The important features of the Neolithic culture are as follows :
1.Cultivation of grains (Wheat, barely, rice, millet). In eastern India Rice cultivation was extensive.
2.Domestication of animals(sheep, goats and cattle) .For cultivation and transport Cattle were used.
3.Mud houses were built.
4. Handmade pottery were used for cooking & storing food.
5. Ornaments were made up of seashell, limestone, sandstone and turquoise.
6.Polished stone tools were used such as stone axes, chisel's,pounders used for hunting and cutting trees.
7. Production of clothing(made of cotton and wool)
8. Large urns were used as coffins for the burial of the dead.
9.Invention of Wheels to make pottery.
