Where are the methods of separation by distillation and by separating funnel used ? Why ?

The mixture is heated and the liquid with the lower boiling point forms a vapour first, then condenses in the condenser and is collected, leaving the second liquid or solid in the distilling flask. Distillation is used to separate miscible liquids

Separating Funnel:

1. To separate mixture of oil and water.

2. In the extraction of iron from its ore, the lighter slag is removed from the top by this method to leave the molten iron at the bottom in the furnace. 

Distillation:

1. Simple distillation is used for the preparation of distilled water and water for injection

2. volatile and aromatic water are prepared

3. organic solvent are prepared

4. spirit of nitrous ether and aromtic spirit of ammonia are prepared.

5. non volatile are separate from volatile liquid.
