Cattle are raised all over the world, in all types of environments. There are cattle in the pastures in western Europe and the East of the United States; in the grasslands of the Great Plains, South America, and Southern and East Africa ; in the arid desert lands of the U.S. Southwest and Mexico; and in pastures cleared from the tropical rain forests in Brazil.

It’s easier to list the places where there aren’t any cattle (or at least very few). Generally, there aren’t many cattle raised in the far North, in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions. Even then there are a few - in Alaska and in Greenland, that I know of.

The domestic breeds of cattle are derived from a wild cow that lived in the woods and grasslands of Central and Eastern Europe.
