Rhizobium are special bacteria that can live in the soil or in nodules formed on the roots of legumes.

These bacteria convert the nitrogen from the air into nitrogenous substances which can be used by the plant. So, these help in improving the fertility of the soil.

Rhizobium has a symbiotic association with the plant.
