(i know to overcome the intermolecular attraction but where it goes?)

latent heat is the hidden amount of heat which is required to change the state of matter without raising temp. so,this heat get absorbed in changing state( it will not go anywhere)

In the case of the latent heat of fusion it is the heat required to change a  (water) or vice versa while the latent heat of vaporization from a liquid (water) . Because of this a gas can easily be compressed and take the shape of the container. The extra energy required to cause a phase transition is actually potential energy.
