The leaves are the primary organs of plant food manufacturing—some plants have photosynthetic stems, even roots. The rows of palisade cells (just below the epidermis and cuticle) are the tissues, and the chloroplasts within those cells do the actual conversion of CO₂ and manufacture sugars.

Animal cells do not have chloroplasts. Chloroplasts work to convert light energy of the Sun into sugars that can be used bycells. The entire process is called photosynthesis and it all depends on the little green chlorophyllmolecules in each chloroplast.
