Awadh is located in the north eastern part of Indian in the modern state of Uttar Pradesh.

In the Britishers period they were known as Oudh or Avadh a small part of which falls in the 5th province of Nepal. Its inhabitants are known as Awadhi. It was among the 12 provinces made by the Mughal Emperor Akbar. Initially Faizabad was its capital with Saadat Ali Khan as its first Nawab. Lucknow later on became its new capital. It is considered to be a centre of Ganga - Jamuni culture. Awadh was highly influenced by the Mughal's way of cooking whose tinch can be found in the dishes of Hyderabad, Lucknow, kashmir, Punjab etc.
